Tell Sussex County: Growth Cannot Continue to Outpace Our Infrastructure
We support property rights. Farmers and other property owners have the right to sell their land. We support local jobs, construction, and responsible development.
But protecting someone's right to sell property does not mean Sussex County must allow unlimited residential density on that property.
Growth must keep pace with the roads, emergency services, healthcare, schools, drainage, businesses, and other infrastructure and services that residents depend upon every day.
Sussex County has the authority to make important decisions about where and how densely development occurs. Recent changes in Delaware law make getting those rules right before another major development application arrives even more important.
We are asking Sussex County Council and the Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission to:
PAUSE
Evaluate a temporary, legally permissible pause on major residential development in areas where existing infrastructure cannot support additional growth while meaningful land-use reforms are completed.
PLAN
Direct major development toward areas where roads, schools, emergency services, water, sewer, drainage, healthcare access, and other infrastructure can support it.
PROTECT
Reduce residential density where appropriate in rural and conservation areas and protect Sussex County's farmland, forests, waterways, open space, and rural character.
