Just a short time since the assassination attempt of Donald J. Trump occurred at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, our Delaware Delegation to the Republican National Convention has arrived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to show our overwhelming support for our presidential candidate now more than ever.
A small contingent of Delaware delegates has already been in place here for the past week, attending the important pre-convention committees to lay the groundwork for the platform of the party and Donald Trump's campaign. The last time a presidential candidate was as intimately involved in the formulation of the party's platform was in 1860 when Abraham Lincoln ran as the first Republican presidential candidate. This tip of the spear contingency included our Chair Julianne Murray, who was honored with the role of Co-Chair of the Rules Committee and appointment of "Super Whip" of the Platform Committee. Also arriving early was our Vice Chair, Jim Weldin, Treasurer, Gene Truono, Executive Director Nick Miles, National Committe Man, Hank McCann, and myself. Hank McCann and I served on the Credentials Committee, which turned out to be quite interesting, as the State of Missouri brought TWO sets of Delegates and it was up to the 100 members of the Credentials Committee to hear the case, debate and decide which slate of Delegates remained to serve at the RNC Convention. Both groups purchased plane tickets and booked hotel rooms! It was a great experience to witness and participate in a well-run Party grievance and hearing, something the 38th District is familiar with! In the end, it was the "Grassroots for Trump" slate that prevailed over the establishment "Unity" slate, unanimously. Change is just not afoot in the Republican party it is up and running! Similar battles took place in at least 15 other States.
The Delegates from all States enjoyed a welcoming party Sunday night, and we ran into a few famous folks, like "Brick" the Wall guy, former Wisconsin governor Scott Walker, and others. Today, Monday, we will travel as a Delaware Delegation from our offsite hotel to the convention, to do the business of the Party. It is expected to be a long day, over 12 hours, but we will get it done, and Delaware will support the Trump campaign 100 percent!
Our Chair, Julianne Murray, has made the promise that we WILL deliver Delaware to Donald J. Trump so when we return, expect that this will be our focus: getting out the Republican vote in Delaware and voting straight down ticket from there!
