Letter to Senator Lisa Blunt-Rochester, YOU Can Do The Same!

Letter To Senator Lisa Blunt-Rochester:

I read your recent newsletter suggesting that Republicans are responsible for the government shutdown and must “come to the table.” In fact, House Republicans have already placed a clean proposal on the table and held multiple votes to fund government operations. Yet, most Democrats, including yourself, have declined to support these measures. A small group of common-sense Democrats, such as Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman, have broken ranks to vote yes, recognizing that Americans shouldn’t be used as leverage in a political stalemate.

It’s unacceptable that families relying on federal services and employees working without pay are being sacrificed for partisan gain. Even the largest federal employee union has called on Congress to pass a full-funding bill immediately.

Regarding SNAP benefits, Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins confirmed during his October press briefing that the contingency funds Democrats demand to be released cannot legally substitute for SNAP funding during a shutdown, and even if they could, the funds are insufficient to meet national need.

You also mentioned the importance of revitalizing America’s shipbuilding industry. I agree. Recent announcements by industry leaders and ongoing discussions with U.S. allies—including Japan, South Korea, and Argentina—show momentum toward rebuilding our shipyards and strengthening both our economy and national defense. This is an area where bipartisan cooperation should be possible.

I urge you to join your colleagues across the aisle and vote yes to reopen the entire government—without political carve-outs or delay. Delaware deserves federal representation that stands for practical solutions and puts working Americans ahead of party pressure.

I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Rosanne Cholewinski

Bridgeville, Delaware

38th Republican Club Local Food Drive

While Sussex County Democrats waste time pointing fingers and blaming Republicans for the government shutdown instead of looking honestly at their own role, Sussex County Republicans are doing the opposite: rolling up our sleeves and getting to work for the people of this county and the 38th District.

What Food to Bring

Start gathering your food donations and plan to bring your items to our Monday 38th Club meeting. Our Club Officers will collect your items at the door and make the deliveries to the needed donation sites in our area the next day.

The food banks especially need staples such as rice, pasta, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, canned vegetables and corn, canned tuna, chicken, or salmon, peanut butter, canned milk, instant oatmeal, soups, baked beans, boxed macaroni and cheese, canned fruit, cooking oil, flour, sugar, and basic spices like salt and pepper. Snack items such as granola bars, cereal, fruit cups, and pudding cups are also appreciated. Personal care products — including soap, toothpaste, and shampoo — are welcome too. Please pack your food items in cardboard boxes for easier transport to the food pantries.

You may also make a monetary donation, in the form of cash or checks, and we will donate all donations to one of our local food pantries.

What NOT to Bring

Please do not donate items that require refrigeration, are homemade, or are past their expiration date.
