Millville Post Office Closed—Here’s Exactly What to Do Next

Residents of Millville and Ocean View are asking a very simple question: Where is our post office and when is it coming back? I started asking that question myself and here is what I found. BREAKING NEWS: See update from Rep. Ron Gray below!

I contacted Delaware’s federal delegation looking for answers.
From Senator Chris Coons’ office, I received only a canned response. When I reached out to Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester’s office, I was able to connect with an intern, Olivia, who sent me a Constituent Services Privacy Release Form so they could begin making inquiries on my behalf.
That is the first real path to getting answers and where I recommend everyone start.
ONE.
Download the form, complete it, and send it directly to:
and cc her supervisor Shanique at Shanique_Jones@bluntrochester.senate.gov
You can print the form, complete, mail it back, or take a photo with your smartphone and email it to them. You can also write a letter including more details if you decide to mail in your complaint, which may be a good idea too. See below for Sample Email/Letter.
If enough people submit inquiries, this will get attention quickly.
Update: I heard back from Intern Olivia, and you can see the identical response that Ron Gray provided, see below. In addition, Olivia provided this link: Ocean View Post Office Temporarily Closed - Delaware newsroom - About.usps.com
TWO.
At the same time, there is a second path that everyone should take: go directly through USPS and file a formal complaint.
I did this myself through the USPS website and received a case number, which at least creates a record and forces a response and I received a response from the Ocean View Post Office representative, Dorothy Longacre, a Sussex County resident. See below to copy and paste a Sample Email/Letter.
Use both of these links (I do not know which one triggered the response, so use both):
Philadelphia USPS Nice But Not Helpful
I was able to speak with a very nice lady at the USPS office in Philadelphia, after an extremely long wait on the line. She looked up everything she could but told me there was no information available other than that the closure was “temporary,” with no reopening date listed. Even she seemed surprised by the lack of information.
She advised me to contact Consumer Affairs as the ultimate overseer of the USPS. Unfortunately, the number she provided led to a voicemail that was full.
FYI here is the number: USPS Customer Service:1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777)
When prompted:
Say ZIP Code: 19967
Provide address: 35764 Atlantic Ave, Millville, DE 19967 (or your home address)
To get through to a human state: "file a complaint"
She recommended calling on a Thursday or Friday when call volumes are lower.
That is where things stand right now: no answers, just a runaround between agencies.
So continue to push directly through USPS, see Sample Email/Letter below.
SAMPLE EMAIL/LETTER
Hello,
I am requesting an immediate update on the status and reopening timeline of the Millville, Delaware Post Office located at 35764 Atlantic Avenue, Millville, DE 19967.
This facility has been closed without any clear public explanation or communicated timeline for reopening. It is one of the busiest post office locations in the state and serves a community that depends on it for medication delivery, essential mail services, and daily business operations. Its continued closure is creating a growing hardship for residents and local businesses, particularly as we approach the peak summer season in a coastal tourist area.
The nearest alternative location in Bethany Beach is not a viable solution due to limited access and metered parking.
I have contacted multiple elected officials, including Senator Gerald Hocker, Representative Ron Gray, U.S. Senator Chris Coons, and Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester, and none have been able to provide any information. All inquiries have been directed back to USPS.
At this point, the lack of communication is unacceptable.
Please provide a specific timeline for reopening.
I also request that this information be shared directly with our elected officials so they can properly inform their constituents.
I look forward to your prompt response.

Update From Rep. Ron Gray:
Ocean View Post Office UPDATE: Repairs to begin in June and be completed by the end of September |
Rep. Gray has received the following update from Delaware's congressional delegation about the status of the repairs of the Ocean View Post Office. Since February, the congressional offices have been working closely with USPS regional leadership and congressional liaisons to seek greater clarity, accountability, and information on next steps and various concerns, including an updated repair timeline, temporary plan for those rerouted to Bethany, and greater communication and transparency. The following is an official update and more concrete timeline from USPS on the reopening of the Ocean View Post Office. Thank you to the staff of the offices of U.S. Senator Coons, U.S. Senator Blunt Rochester, and Congresswoman McBride for their assistance in this matter. And, thank you to you for your patience through this project.

Collection Box Upgrade During the March 4 discussion, it was noted that the collection box at 220 Atlantic Avenue Ocean View, DE 19967 is frequently filled to capacity. To improve service, USPS has ordered a Jumbo Letter Collection Box to replace the current unit. The goal is to install the new box before May 30, ahead of the summer peak season.
Updates for Ocean View PO Box Customers being serviced at the Bethany Beach Post Office.
The Postal Service has developed a number of convenient offerings that can save customers a trip to the Post Office. For instance, customers can buy stamps online through the USPS website at www.usps.com, by phone at 1-800-STAMP24, or by mail. The USPS Click-N-Ship service on usps.com enables customers to print shipping labels with postage for Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express and request that the items be picked up via the USPS Package Pickup service. |
So will YOU send an email to make sure Millville and Ocean View get our post office back?
