School board members make decisions that directly affect our children's education, district spending and the future of our community. Now there is an opportunity for someone in our community to step forward and serve!
The Indian River School District is accepting applications to fill the newly vacant District 1 seat on the Board of Education.
If you—or someone you know—is a thoughtful, capable community member who would be willing to serve, please consider applying or sharing this opportunity.
Who can apply?
Applicants must live within IRSD Nominating District 1, which includes portions of the northern Indian River School District around Georgetown, Redden, and Harbeson and extends north toward the Milton area.
Not sure if you live in District 1? Check your address against the official Delaware Department of Elections map:
Applications are due September 23, 2026.
The current School Board will appoint a qualified applicant to serve through June 30, 2027. The seat will then appear on the ballot in the 2027 school board election for the remainder of the term.
For application information or questions, contact:
Dr. Jack Owens, Superintendent
Indian River School District
302-436-1000
Please share this with someone you think would bring good judgment, common sense and a commitment to our students and community to the Indian River School Board.
