41st District Candidate Forum: Hear From the Candidates Yourself

The Republican Primary in Delaware's 41st Representative District has generated considerable discussion and controversy—online, in person, and on the radio.
With three Republicans seeking the nomination, voters have three candidates with very different backgrounds and records to consider: Doug Conaway, Jacki Slonin, and John Atkins.
If you live in the 41st District, Monday night's Candidate Forum is your opportunity to move beyond social media posts, campaign literature, and competing claims and hear directly from the candidates themselves.

John Atkins
John Atkins is a former State Representative who previously represented the 41st District as both a Republican and Democrat.
We will include links to verifiable facts only, in the interest of full transparency and keeping voters informed.
In 2018, Atkins pleaded guilty to third-degree assault and three counts of breach of release. He was sentenced to 22 days in jail and one year of probation. He was subject to GPS monitoring during probation and required to attend domestic-violence counseling and undergo substance-abuse and mental-health evaluations. The guilty plea also prohibited him by law from possessing firearms for five years. Atkins had originally been charged with felony strangulation, but that charge was dropped as part of the case's disposition.
These are matters of public record, not social-media allegations.
Doug Conaway
Doug Conaway brings a very different background to the race. He is a small-business owner, military veteran, and former law-enforcement officer, having served with both the New Castle County Police and Delaware State Police.

Following September 11, Conaway made the extraordinary decision to leave his Delaware State Police career—and the pension that went with it—to return to military service. Altogether, his military service spans more than 20 years.
Conaway is campaigning on conservative priorities including opposing new taxes, reducing unnecessary government spending, supporting small businesses, strengthening education, and protecting individual freedoms.
He has also earned the endorsement of retiring 41st District Representative Rich Collins, who has represented the district for more than a decade and says he is behind Conaway "100 percent."

Jacki Slonin
Jacki Slonin is a lifelong Delawarean who grew up in Selbyville and now lives in Dagsboro. She attended Indian River High School, earned a Criminal Justice degree from Delaware Technical Community College, spent nearly 20 years working in marketing, and is now a small-business owner.
Now Hear From Them Yourself
Three candidates. Three very different backgrounds.
Members of the Southern Delaware Republican Club will be attending Monday night's forum. We are eager to hear directly from each candidate, ask questions, and learn more about their records, positions, judgment, and vision for the 41st District.
Following the forum, our Club will consider whether an endorsement in this race is appropriate. Whether or not an endorsement is ultimately made, we hope to share what we learn with Republican voters.
But there is no substitute for attending yourself.
If you vote in the 41st District, we strongly encourage you to attend. Hear the candidates. Ask the difficult questions. Consider their records and their answers. Then make an informed decision.

Be Sure to Vote in the Republican Primary September 15 or Early Voting!
Dr. Mike Katz for U.S. Senate and Earl Cooper for U.S. Congress are the only candidates who can beat Chris Coons and Sarah McBride—but first, they need your vote in the Republican Primary. Rev. Earl Cooper is a pastor, small business owner, and community leader who has spent decades serving Delaware families. Through his work creating jobs, restoring neighborhoods, and expanding opportunities for homeownership and workforce training, he has dedicated his life to strengthening communities. He's running for Congress to bring faith, integrity, and common-sense leadership to Washington. He needs your vote in the Republican Primary on September 15.
