TAKE ACTION: Help Move SB 215 — Fairness in Girls’ Sports Act

Originally proposed by Bryant Richardson, Senate Bill 215 is the result of years of effort to protect fairness in girls’ athletics. Similar bills have been introduced repeatedly in Delaware, only to stall. SB 215 is now closer to passing than any prior attempt, making this a critical moment for engagement.
Senate Bill 215, the Fairness in Girls’ Sports Act, preserves girls’ and women’s sports by keeping them sex-segregated based on biological sex. Its purpose is fairness and safety—ensuring that opportunities earned by female athletes remain protected. The bill is currently held in the Senate Education Committee and needs two Democratic signatures to advance. Republicans already support it, making constituent outreach decisive.
That outreach matters because of outside pressure on the committee. For decades, the Delaware State Education Association, the state’s teachers’ union, publicly championed women’s and girls’ rights in education and athletics. Yet during the SB 215 hearing, the union appeared in opposition, marking a clear reversal from its earlier advocacy. Given the union’s influence, and the fact that committee chair Laura V. Sturgeon previously served as an active DSEA representative, direct constituent voices are essential to show where Delaware families stand and to counterbalance institutional pressure.

Subject: Please Advance SB 215 — Fairness in Girls’ Sports
Hello Senator,
Please allow Senate Bill 215, the Fairness in Girls’ Sports Act, to move out of committee. As our elected representative, we ask you to do what is best for our children and to protect girls’ sports. Girls’ athletics exist to ensure fair and safe competition, and biological differences still matter in sports. This is about common sense and fairness, not politics. Thank you for your consideration.
I may not live in your district, but I have friends and family who do, and I will be encouraging them to be informed voters in your upcoming election.
Thank you for your time and service.
